Some of you may have noticed that Y/CON is changing the minimum age for entry to the convention. This year, the convention is no longer open to under 14 year olds.

This change comes after a great deal of thought and discussion with many of you (visitors, exhibitors, partners and team members alike).

The Y/CON philosophy has always been (and has been since time immemorial when we called ourselves the Yaoi Yuri Con) to include the younger members of the community. Many of us share the experience of being able to access BL/GL during our younger years, and we feel it’s essential not to leave this part of our community on the sidelines.

Nevertheless, Y/CON is undeniably a convention attended by adults (97% according to our Y/CON 9 ticketing statistics) and we think it’s a good idea to adjust this minimum age to allow as many people as possible to feel comfortable at Y/CON.

The rules already in place remain unchanged:

– Exhibitors must censor explicit (violent or sexual) content displayed on their stand (sealed R18 artbook, post-it notes hiding explicit parts for illustrations, binder clearly labelled R18, etc.) – we remind you that Y/CON considers female and male nipples on the same level: they do not have to be censored.

– Cosplay performances must not contain explicit elements (violence or sexuality). If a performance requires it, trigger warnings may be issued before the performance in question.

– Events not suitable for minors are indicated on the programme.
