It doesn’t matter to her that she’s now at the service of one of the only political entities that maintain a semblance of democracy: she needs to find the Cold Bitch and its crew, at least to take her revenge on the one who betrayed her…

With characters as resolved as ruthless, a distinctive style and an universe in which to have values is a luxury, Cold Bitch feeds as much on Cowboy Bebop than Altered Carbon or even Cyberpunk 2077.

A local government official living in Paris, Ghislain developed a passion for the humanities, board games, and symbolism. As a fantasy reader, it was because he couldn’t find a character he could identify with, or a hero from the LGBTQIA+ community, that he decided to write. With Le Gardien de la Lumière, he signs a duology full of adventure, love, and plot twists that is already loved by its readers, and he is back this fall with Impasse-Muraille, an adventure centered on an unwanted power.

Being able to pass through walls on paper is an extremely useful power. In practice, it’s a never-ending source of troubles for Thal. When the assassins guild of the Hand tries once again to capture him so they can use his powers and burn his house, his boyfriend, Marcio, gives up. Farwell, normal life! That can now only curse who or what gave him this power. However, Lady Bess, diplomat of Vintiène, would like (her too!) the use of those powers to spy and find the ones responsible for plotting the fall of their kingdom. In exchange, she promised to make him a man like any other one.

After the Gardien de la Lumière duology, Ghislain Lurent depicts the trials and tribulations of a gay couple who only aspires to a peaceful life in a world torn in a power conflict between two religions. Political conspiracies and incredibles are side by side in this new one-shot in which fantasy shines a light on our attitude toward tolerance.

Ines lives in Strasbourg, where she uses her talents for publishing and role-playing games (Chroniques oubliées – Fantasy with Black Book). She has made a name for herself in the French-speaking fantasy world by illustrating the famous Gagner la guerre by Jean-Philippe Jaworski (Les Moutons électriques, 2024) and by working with Ghislain Laurent to illustrate his new book, Impasse-Muraille.

After long studies in international languages, Marie Zofra finally turned toward care. Loving medieval fencing as much as video games or role-playing games, she is actually based in Bordeaux, from where she studies systemic violence and the grey nuances that compose our worlds as much as the imaginary ones. Cold Bitch is her first novel.
